Red Priest – Not Just Baroque specialists

What makes a Red Priest concert such an exciting, lively and unusual musical evening?

Perhaps it’s the tremendously varied musical experience the members of the quartet bring to the party.  Cellist Angela East is not only recognised as one of the finest Baroque cellists playing today; her biography includes appearing on over 200 CDs, mostly classical, but also including various hits such as “Angie” by the Rolling Stones, “My name is his” by Eminem, “Kashmir” by Led Zeppelin, “Part Time Love” from Elton John’s “A Single Man” album and one by Lindisfarne, all with the Martyn Ford Orchestra.

Piers Adams has a similarly eclectic musical biography, ranging from the flamboyance of Hungarian gypsy music to the laid back vibe of the CD “Bach Side of the Moon”, a collaboration with synthesizer artist Larry Lush, via 19th century Viennese, mid 20th century British recorder repertoire and the Celtic Gypsy Klezmer folk ensemble, Dod Street Band

Add these to the “deliciously dangerous” playing of violinist Julia Bishop, recognised as one of the most colourful exponents of the Baroque violin, and in-demand harpsichordist David Wright, used to sharing a stage with Early Music stars such as Emma Kirkby and James Bowman as well as appearing with a plethora of early music ensembles and orchestras, and you have the recipe for an evening of unbridled musical excellence and entertainment. Rossano returns!

Master of jazz piano improvisation Rossano Sportiello has chosen to kick off his Scottish tour at Haddo House Hall, returning following his first visit in May 2019, when his improvisation and charming presentation delighted the Haddo audience. He says “Haddo house is one of the most special venues I’ve performed in my over 30 years’ career. I’m very much looking forward to be back!”

Join Rossano on Tuesday 10 October at 7.30 pm when he takes us on a journey through the Great American Songbook, improvising on the works of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, George Gershwin and Cole Porter. Tickets and further info here
