2023 brought a different 'long weekend' format to the festival, with some old friends returning and some new ones appearing for the first time..
2022 saw us return to live performance. Audiences and Festival team alike were delighted to be enjoying live events in Haddo's wonderful venues once more.
Our tenth Festival.
We marked this special anniversary with a sound and light spectacular, featuring images from Festival past and present, projected onto Haddo House, before moving online for a series of YouTube Premieres.
The year we went digital. This was a very different Haddo Arts Festival. The Festival was broadcast as a series of YouTube Premieres from 3-8 October and can still be accessed on our YouTube channel here.
We started our three year Song for Haddo schools’ music project and included St. Machar’s Cathedral, Aberdeen, among the Festival venues.
From the traditional Opening Concert to the premiere of a two-act revue and including chamber music, a piano recital and an evening of Scots poetry and music, the Festival was designed to offer the very best night out to as wide an audience as possible.
The varied programme celebrated the old and the new, in keeping with the artistic tradition of Haddo House, and saw the beginning of our schools’ music collaboration with McOpera.
We introduced new elements to our programming - author talk, electro-acoustic music and a photography competition – and used Haddo Chapel as a Festival venue for the first time.
HRH Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex KG GCVO ADC, was the guest of honour at the Festival Opening Concert.
With Shades, the Festival added jazz, sound sculpture installations to the core programme and extended into Haddo Country Park.
Senses added chamber music, comedy, tea dance and a food and drink event to our core programme of concerts, art exhibition and workshops.
Voices established the mix of concerts, art exhibition and workshops for children and young people which is the backbone of the current Festival.
