A talented cast of four singers and a pianist perform an array of operatic treasures and must-hear rarities by some of the world’s most celebrated composers. Mozart, Donizetti and Britten rub shoulders with Gilbert and Sullivan in a programme which also features a new work from Scottish Opera Composer in Residence Samuel Bordoli. The Maxwell Quartet performs two masterpieces of the string quartet repertoire. Dedicated to Haydn, Mozart’s quartet is a sparkling work which owes its nickname to its ‘hunting horn” opening theme. Debussy’s passionate quartet, written over 100 years later, explores new colours and harmonies and is one of the cornerstones of the repertoire.
