Event information

The Maxwell Quartet performs two masterpieces of the string quartet repertoire. Dedicated to Haydn, Mozart’s quartet is a sparkling work which owes its nickname to its ‘hunting horn” opening theme. Debussy’s passionate quartet, written over 100 years later, explores new colours and harmonies and is one of the cornerstones of the repertoire.

1st prizewinner and audience prizewinner at the 9th Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition in 2017, the Maxwell Quartet is firmly regarded as one of Britain’s finest young string quartets. The players have a strong connection to their folk music heritage and we may expect to hear arrangements of traditional Scottish music as an extra treat.

Mozart:
String Quartet No 17 in B-flat, K458 “Hunt”

Debussy:
String Quartet in G-minor, Op 10
