Scottish Opera Emerging Artist 2025/26
Australian mezzo-soprano Chloe Harris is a graduate of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and the Royal Academy of Music opera school. Opera roles include Nancy Albert Herring, Baba the Turk The Rake’s Progress, Marcellina Le nozze di Figaro, Clarina Il cambiale di matrimonio, Public Opinion Orphée aux enfers, and The Second Fairy The Selfish Giant (world premiere). In Australia, Chloe is an Associate Artist through Melbourne Opera’s Richard Divall Emerging Artists Programme and was a Melba Opera Trust Artist. In 2023, she received the Opera Foundation for young Australians Lady Galleghan London Award, and Help Musicians Sybil Tutton Opera Award. Chloe was a 2024 Alvarez Young Artist with Garsington Opera, performing in the chorus and covering Marcellina for their production of Le nozze di Figaro, performing Marcellina in the OperaFirst performance, and covering the Moon Queen in A Trip to the Moon.

Luvo Maranti is a South African tenor with a strong record of achievement in both national and international opera scenes. His career highlights include appearances in Cape Town Opera productions, winning first prize in the Voices of South Africa International Competition, and performing leading roles in Europe and the USA. He holds a Diploma in Music Performance from the University of Cape Town and is a recipient of the prestigious Drake Calleja Scholarship. His artistry continues to gain recognition across the globe.

James Geidt is a recent graduate of the Opera Course at the Royal Academy of Music.  Before that, he was a Choral Scholar in the choir of New College, Oxford.

Operatic roles to date include Demetrius in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Garsington Opera, the Hunter in Dvořák’s Rusalka for Garsington Opera at the Edinburgh International Festival, The Sorceress in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas for the Vache Baroque Festival, Papageno in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Le Comte in Massenet’s Chérubin, Forester in Janacek’s The Cunning Little Vixen, L’horloge Comtoise and Le Chat in Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges all for Royal Academy Opera.

James has worked as an Alvarez Emerging Artist at Garsington Opera across multiple seasons and was awarded the Simon Sandbach award for his achievements across the 2024 season.  In 2023, James stepped in to join the intimate Vokalensemble at the Staatsoper Hamburg for a revival of Sciarrino’s Venere e Adone, conducted by Kent Nagano.

In concert, James has appeared at the Birmingham Symphony Hall, St John’s Smith Square, Palau de la Música Catalana, Auditorio Nacional de Música, Cadogan Hall and at the Three Choir’s Festival.

Recent engagements include the roles of Pluton in Charpentier’s La descente d’Orphée aux enfers at the Buxton International Festival and Schaunard in Puccini’s La Boheme for Devon Opera.  Concert performances include Handel’s Messiah at Smith Square Hall, Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music in the Barnes Music Festival, Bach’s B minor Mass for the North London Chorus and Handel’s Israel in Egypt at the Semana de Musica Religiosa in Cuenca.

British-Argentine Soprano Ceferina Penny has just completed the Young Artist Programme at the National Opera Studio (NOS), where she was a Sybil Tutton Award holder. Previously, completed her undergraduate and master’s studies at the Royal College of Music, under the tutelage of Janis Kelly.

Upon beginning her studies in 2018, she made her professional debut with ENO as The Slave in Salome. In 2023, Ceferina performed the role of Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, with Westminster Opera Company. At NOS, her scenes included Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Giulietta (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), The Governess (The Turn of the Screw), Musetta (La Bohème) and Poppea (L’incoronazione di Poppea), among others.

Recent concert work includes Mozart’s Exultate Jubilate (Westminster Opera Company) and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle (Woodbridge Choral Society). In June 2024, she performed as Solveig in excerpts from Peer Gynt with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (Cadogan Hall).

As a Britten Pears Young Artist, in 2024 Ceferina won the Elizabeth Harwood Memorial Award and received coaching on French Mélodie by leading professionals Véronique Gens, Susan Manoff, and Audrey Hyland, at Snape Maltings. This Summer, Ceferina returned to Britten Pears Arts to give a recital of Mélodie and Lieder as part of the Aldeburgh Festival.
