Music sang from the rafters of Haddo House Hall on Saturday 11 April.

Sir John Rutter CBE, Britain’s foremost choral composer and conductor, led over 280 singers in a day of joyful music making. He guided singers through a souvenir booklet of pieces by composers from Bruckner to Verdi, via Mozart and Rachmaninov, as well a number of his own compositions.

A special treat was working on three of his “Bird Songs”. Premiered at last year’s BBC Proms, this was the first time they had been sung in Scotland.

Sir John spent much of the breaks signing copies of the souvenir music booklets for participants. Singers commented afterwards that he was so approachable, and “a true professional with charming humility”, “so relaxed and clearly enjoying himself”.
