We are thrilled to announce that our 2022 Haddo Arts Festival will feature the world premiere of We Are Collective, a new work for piano quintet by the esteemed Scottish composer Sir James MacMillan, CBE, co-commissioned in conjunction with our partners, Sound, Spitalfields and Cheltenham International Festivals.

Ahead of the world premiere, we asked Sir James about the inspiration behind the new piece, as well as about writing for strings and voices, and the impact of being Scottish and living in Scotland on his writing. Watch the interview on the Haddo Arts YouTube channel.

We Are Collective was commissioned in 2022 as part of the 10th anniversary celebration of Haddo Arts Festival. The world premiere will take place at Haddo House on Friday 14th October, performed by leading Scottish artists, the Maxwell Quartet with pianist Alasdair Beatson.

The concert is the culmination of a four-day residency by the Maxwell Quartet and Alasdair Beatson at Haddo, who will go on to perform the work at Sound, Spitalfields and Cheltenham Music Festivals later in 2022 and 2023.
